Editor-in-Chief: A.J. Heightman
A.J. Heightman, MPA, EMT-P, is editor-in-chief of JEMS and also editorial director for all Elsevier Public Safety publications, including JEMS, Fire-Rescue magazine, Law Officer magazine, APCO’s Public Safety Communications magazine and the EMS Insider newsletter.
A.J. assumed the role of JEMS Editor in December 1997. He joined the staff of Jems Communications in April 1995 to serve as vice president of Jems Communications, director of the Emergency Care Information Center and director of the Jems Conference Division before moving to the editorial department.
Prior to joining Jems Communications, A.J. served as director of operations for Cetronia Ambulance, a multi-jurisdictional BLS/ALS service based in Allentown, Pa. from 1992-1995. For 18 years prior to his position at Cetronia Ambulance, A.J. was executive director of the Eastern Pennsylvania Emergency Medical Services Council, a six-county regional EMS office funded by the PA Department of Health. There, he helped establish and direct a regional BLS/ALS system comprised of 150 BLS and ALS services; 17 acute care hospitals; two regional Trauma Centers; two pre-hospital helicopters system and MEDCOM, an advanced medical communications center that served a population of 1.2 million residents.
During A.J.'s tenure at Eastern PA EMS, more than $11 million in state, federal and local funds were obtained to develop and expand the EMS System.
A.J. also served as a paramedic and command officer for Bethlehem Township Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years. This combination volunteer/paid department offers multi-jurisdictional BLS/ALS/Rescue service throughout Northampton County, Pennsylvania. While at Bethlehem Township, A.J. helped develop and supervise the "Medic 1" Paramedic Response System, which provided ALS service to 11 urban, suburban and rural municipalities.
A graduate of Temple University, A.J. received his master's degree in public administration from Lehigh University. A certified EMS and rescue instructor, A.J. has served on the faculty of university EMS degree programs; community college EMS training divisions; and fire academies. Medical Editor: Ed Dickinson
Edward T. Dickinson, MD, FACEP, NREMT-P, is associate professor and director of EMS Field Operations, Department of Emergency Medicine, Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, and serves as the medical editor for JEMS. He is also medical director of the Malvern and Berwyn Fire Companies and Haverford Township (Pa.) paramedics. He began his career in the volunteer fire service in 1979 as an EMT-firefighter and has served as a company officer, training officer and assistant fire chief. He continues to be active in the fire service and hands-on prehospital patient care, maintaining his National Registry paramedic certification for the past 20 years. He is the medical editor of numerous major EMS textbooks and the author of Fire Service Emergency Care and co-author of Emergency Incident Rehabilitation, both joint BRADY-IFSTA textbooks.

Technical Editor: Travis Kusman
Travis Kusman, MPH, NREMT-P, joined JEMS as a technical editor in early 2009. He is the Division General Manager for Rural/Metro of Santa Clara County. In addition to being a paramedic, he has served as an instructor/educator, clinical coordinator, EMS supervisor, administrator and emergency manager. He is passionate about improving community health-care services through collaboration among EMS and public health professionals.
Technical Editor: Fred W. Wurster III
Fred W. Wurster III,, AAS, NREMT-P joined JEMS as a technical editor in early 2009. He's the Director of Training and Education with Good Fellowship Ambulance and EMS Training Institute. He's a former flight paramedic with PennSTAR Flight, Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and a paramedic/firefighter as both a volunteer and professionally within Chester County, Pa. He is also very involved with EMS research and has wrote for several EMS textbooks. He has been in EMS for more than 20 years, serving as a firefighter/paramedic, Deputy Fire Chief, instructor/educator, EMS coordinator, and administrator.

Bryan Bledsoe, DO, FACEP, is a board-certified emergency physician and an author.
