Event Desc: The Tactical Medical Provider program at McLennan Community College was established to provide competency based training to tactical operators, patrol officers, fire personnel, first responders, basic and advanced level pre-hospital healthcare providers. The Tactical Medical Provider program is designed to provide training in: •Self/Buddy Aid for patrol officers and tactical operators to perform emergency first aid for themselves, a fellow officer, a bystander or person in custody who becomes ill or injured. •Tactical Operations Medical Support (TOMS) for EMS personnel & Physicians in performing in close medical support for law enforcement personnel during high risk operations. •Training is provided for Emergency First Responders in how to respond to hostile incidents to coordinate with Law Enforcement/Tactical EMS personnel and to assist in triaging, treating and evacuating casualties from an austere environment. Training focuses on the leading causes of preventable death caused by traumatic injuries and the medical procedures rescuers and operators can perform to enhance the survival of the casualty. These include: •Controlling severe bleeding using a tourniquet and/or hemostatic agents. •Managing the casualty’s airway using basic and advance adjuncts. •Managing a casualty’s breathing and ability to ventilate properly. Other areas of training include planning and responding to incidents involving: •Terrorism and WMD. •Active Shooters •Hostage/Officer Rescues • Limited Visibility The curriculum for the Tactical Medical Provider program follows the recommendations of the National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA) and the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) and conforms to current state and federal standards. Participants will be awarded a certificate of completion from McLennan Community College which is recognized by most national and state regulatory agencies for the purpose of continuing education credit for police officers, firefighters and health care providers. Participation is limited to 30 students with paid registration.
